Original, "Our Agreement"
This original painting was created for the emotions I felt as a first time pregnant mother during a time when mineral development projects were threatening our region and the spawning grounds of our salmon. Specifically, the Pebble Mine Project. As I was deeply involved in the nonprofit world fighting Pebble, my mind was engulfed by not only what this mine would do to me, but the life that was forming inside me that was fed by our subsistence way of life. This woman and her child is a manifestation of all the women in our region who nourish their children with subsistence foods and the maternal instincts we have to protect our children and the environment we thrive in for generations to come. The words in the back repeat, "I will nourish your future generations -as long as you protect mine." This saying came to me upon observing the image.
